Renewed Violence in Bawku Leaves Two Dead, Several Injured

Two individuals lost their lives, and multiple people sustained injuries in a recent outbreak of violence in Bawku, linked to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute. The conflict, which had shown signs of subsiding, reignited following the return of a rival chief to the area.

Alhaji Seidu Abagre, who had been in exile since his installation in February 2023 in Nalerigu, came back to Bawku after a Kumasi High Court dismissed his arrest warrant on October 17, 2024. His return on Saturday, October 26, sparked renewed tensions, leading to an exchange of gunfire. The violent clash resulted in the death of two people and left several others injured.
