The Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee has levied a GH¢100,000 fine on Real Tamale United (RTU) for actions that damaged the sport’s reputation.
This sanction follows a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations.
The penalty was a result of an investigation into the matchday 28 fixture against Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams.
RTU was found guilty of deliberately deceiving match officials by fielding unregistered players who impersonated officially registered players. This deceitful conduct compromised the game’s integrity.
The club acknowledged the charges and requested leniency, citing that registered players refused to travel, necessitating the use of unregistered players.
Despite the explanation, the GFA Disciplinary Committee considered the offense a severe violation of regulations and imposed the fine to maintain league standards.
Following this incident, RTU has been relegated from the league and will compete in the Division One League next season.
