Ghanaian rapper Darlington Agyekum, popularly known as D-Cryme, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of Student Representative Council (SRC) President at Methodist University.
In a post shared on April 7, 2025, D-Cryme called on students to rally behind what he described as “transformational leadership,” promising a leadership style anchored in transparency, accountability, and proactive service.
“Team D-Cryme is here to champion a new era… to build a campus that supports, protects, and uplifts every student,” he stated.
He highlighted ten priority areas for his administration, including transparency, academic support, student welfare, campus development, student engagement, entertainment and sports, safety, financial aid, constitutional review, and engagement with mature students.
Prior to this announcement, the rapper had been vocal about his contributions to student life, pointing to projects like the Wall of Fame—honoring distinguished faculty—and the Digital Screen Initiative aimed at improving campus communication.
D-Cryme’s vision for the SRC is rooted in innovation and inclusivity, with a focus on serving the diverse needs of the student body.
His bid follows similar moves by fellow artists Samini and Guru, who were elected SRC Presidents at GIMPA and the University of Ghana respectively.
Known for hit songs like Kill Me Shy, Me Ne Woaa, and Fine Fine Girl, D-Cryme’s foray into student politics adds another layer to his multifaceted career.
