The Ghana Police Service has arrested William Gyimah, the General Overseer of Elohim International Ministry, over alleged death threats made against Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
According to reports, the 49-year-old suspect was arrested on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation in Kasoa in the Central Region. The arrest followed the circulation of a viral video on TikTok and other social media platforms in which he allegedly made the threats.
Police said the operation was carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET), which flagged the video through its ongoing social media monitoring activities.
Following his arrest, Prophet Gyimah was handed over to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for further investigations. Authorities say the matter is being treated as a high-priority national security issue.
The police have also cautioned the public and media houses against using digital platforms to circulate content that could incite unrest or threaten the peace and security of the state.
This incident has sparked wider discussions in Ghana about responsible use of social media, online threats, and the legal consequences of making threatening statements against public officials.
