Accra, Ghana – Professor Ransford Gyampo, a distinguished academic and political analyst, has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers Authority. His appointment was made by President John Dramani Mahama, succeeding Kwesi Baffour Sarpong, who was appointed by the previous Akufo-Addo administration in December 2024.
Prof. Gyampo is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana and the Founding Director of the Centre for European Studies. With two decades of experience in academia, governance, and public policy, he is expected to bring his expertise to the leadership of the Authority, which plays a key role in regulating Ghana’s shipping and logistics sector.
Born on March 31, 1977, in Accra, Prof. Gyampo holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Ghana and has pursued advanced studies at Tufts University in Boston, USA. His research and academic focus encompass governance, leadership, democratic development in Ghana and Africa, youth empowerment, natural resource management, electoral studies, and maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea.
He has served as a visiting scholar at the Department of Government and International Relations at the University of South Florida and a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Bristol, contributing significantly to global scholarship.
Prior to his academic career, Prof. Gyampo spent 14 years at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA-Ghana), where he progressed from Research Assistant to Senior Research Fellow. During his tenure, he spearheaded vital socio-economic and governance research projects, offering evidence-based policy recommendations to address Ghana’s critical challenges.
Through his research and public engagements, Prof. Gyampo has played an instrumental role in shaping national discourse, utilizing roundtables and media platforms to influence policy and governance reforms. His appointment signals a new era of leadership for the Ghana Shippers Authority, with expectations of strategic improvements in the nation’s maritime and logistics sector.
