President John Dramani Mahama has visited Malian leader General Assimi Goïta in Bamako as part of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s ties with neighboring countries.
The visit, announced by the presidency in a Facebook post on March 9, 2025, focused on discussions about bilateral relations, regional security, and economic cooperation. President Mahama described the visit as a reaffirmation of the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Mali, rooted in the historic partnership established by Ghana’s Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Mali’s first president, Modibo Keita.
General Goïta welcomed President Mahama at the airport before further engagements at the Presidential Palace.
This visit to Mali is part of a broader regional tour, with President Mahama expected to continue to Niger and Burkina Faso. The talks come amid shifting political dynamics in West Africa, as Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso distance themselves from traditional ECOWAS structures.
