President Mahama Nominates Dr. Johnson Asiama as Governor of the Bank of Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has officially nominated Dr. Johnson Asiama as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State.

The nomination comes following the acceptance of a formal request by the current Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, to proceed on leave ahead of his retirement, scheduled for March 31, 2025.

Dr. Johnson Asiama brings a wealth of expertise to the role, having previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana between 2016 and 2017. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK, and has extensive experience in monetary policy formulation, financial stability regulation, and economic research.

With over 23 years of service at the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Asiama has demonstrated a strong commitment to implementing sound monetary and exchange rate policies, fostering a stable financial system, and promoting accelerated economic growth in Ghana.

In a statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President, Dr. Asiama was praised for his expertise and proven dedication to advancing Ghana’s economic stability and development.

The nomination is seen as a strategic move by the Mahama administration to maintain stability in Ghana’s banking and financial systems. The Council of State is expected to review and decide on the nomination in the coming weeks.
