In a bid to tackle the growing concerns of insecurity and coups d’états across West Africa, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called upon the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament to devise practical solutions and propose concrete measures to assist governments in the region.

Addressing the 2nd ECOWAS Parliamentary Seminar held in Winneba, President Akufo-Addo stressed the importance of understanding the root causes behind military insurrections and taking proactive steps to address the prevailing security challenges. The president highlighted that the peaceful democracies within the ECOWAS bloc are under threat, and it is vital to safeguard the democratic values that the entire African continent holds dear.

The seminar, spanning three days, has been convened with the overarching objective of brainstorming and finding effective solutions to the region’s political insecurity crisis. President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need to delve deeper into the causes of democratic regression and political instability in order to adopt more targeted approaches for their resolution. The outcomes of the seminar are expected to propose measures that reinforce democratic and republican values, both among political elites and the citizens of the ECOWAS community.
