The Bono Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the killing of a 16-year-old boy at an illegal mining site in Amasu, a farming community in the Dormaa East District.
The victim, identified as Issahaku Ansu, was gunned down on Sunday, August 31, 2025, while engaging in galamsey activities. According to a police statement signed by the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, preliminary findings suggest that the boy was shot from a nearby bush, prompting others at the site to flee for safety.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered the teenager’s body with multiple gunshot wounds to the back and blood oozing from his nostrils. He was found wearing a wine-coloured pair of boxer shorts, soaked in blood, which has been retained as part of the evidence.
The body has since been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police have assured the public, particularly residents of Amasu and its surrounding communities, that every effort is being made to track down and arrest those responsible for what they described as a “heinous crime.”
