Police Investigate Nima Commander Over Alleged Political Endorsement

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into ASP Asong Ayrakwa, the Nima District Police Commander, following allegations that he endorsed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a gathering in the Ayawaso East constituency. A viral video reportedly shows ASP Ayrakwa chanting, “We will win,” a phrase associated with the NDC’s campaign slogan, sparking questions about his neutrality.

In a recent meeting with both NDC and New Patriotic Party (NPP) representatives from the Ayawaso East and North constituencies, party officials urged caution, emphasizing the need for a balanced investigation. The NDC’s Ayawaso East Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Ramne, defended ASP Ayrakwa, praising his commitment to maintaining peace in Nima and condemning the video as “doctored.”

An NPP representative echoed this sentiment, asserting that the phrase “we will win” was likely intended to mean that peace should prevail, rather than endorsing any political party.

Despite these appeals, DCOP Arhin Kwasi Annor, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, affirmed that an impartial investigation would be conducted, stating, “We are also going to conduct our own investigations.”
