Police Arrest Suspect, Retrieve Weapons After Rival Groups Clash in Simpa

The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested one suspect and retrieved weapons following a violent clash between two rival groups at Simpa in the Nsuaem District.

According to police reports, the confrontation occurred on September 28 near the Simpa Sawmill. Officers responded to a distress call about an armed confrontation between two groups, one allegedly led by Daniel Cudjoe, also known as Kwame Ato Asare, and another from Dadwen, led by suspects Alhassan and Abolo, who remain at large.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Western Central Regional Command, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 30.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that suspect Daniel Cudjoe alias Ato Asare, 25 years old, together with his deceased brother Emmanuel Cudjoe, 23 years old, and ten others now at large, confronted the Dadwen group after receiving information that the Dadwen group, led by suspects Alhassan and Abolo, had destroyed his mining equipment at a mining site,” the statement read.

The clash escalated into an exchange of gunfire, leading to the death of Emmanuel Cudjoe.

Police retrieved two pump-action guns, three machetes, four motorbikes, a tricycle, and some regalia from the scene.

ASP Turkson assured the public that investigations are ongoing to bring all suspects to justice.

“The Police Command assures the general public that investigations are ongoing to arrest all persons involved to face the full rigours of the law,” she added.
