Police Arrest Man For Unlawful Possession Of Foreign Pistol, Ammunition Near Obuasi Barrier

Police in the Ashanti South Region have arrested a man for unlawfully possessing a foreign-made pistol and ammunition.

The suspect, identified as Osman Abdul Majeed, was arrested on July 29, 2025, during a routine security check at the Tweapease Police Barrier near Obuasi. He was travelling in a Toyota minibus from Kumasi to Tarkwa when officers found an unregistered Bruni Model 92 pistol hidden in his backpack. The pistol was loaded with three live rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Upon questioning, Majeed claimed the weapon was given to him in Tamale by a man named Awal, who asked him to deliver it to someone in Tarkwa. He was unable to present any legal documentation for the possession or transport of the firearm.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to be arraigned in court. Meanwhile, police investigations are underway to determine the weapon’s origin and to locate other individuals involved in the case.
