The Ghana Police Service has arrested several suspects engaged in illegal mining activities within the Apramprama and Asumiya Forest Reserves in the Western Region.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out as part of renewed efforts by the Inspector General of Police to clamp down on illegal mining, also known as galamsey, which continues to threaten the country’s environment and water bodies.
According to police sources, the operation targeted forest reserves that have become hotspots for illegal mining despite repeated warnings and enforcement actions.
The suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations, while authorities continue efforts to dismantle networks behind these unlawful operations.
