The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested five individuals believed to be behind a human trafficking and cybercrime syndicate that brought fifty-seven (57) Nigerian nationals into Ghana.
According to the CID’s Operations Unit, the suspects, identified as Joel Nosa, Collins Rotimi, Shadrack Lulu, Austin Amahuaro, and John Uloko, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at Adom Estates, Community 25, in the Greater Accra Region.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the group allegedly ran a trafficking network that lured young men and women from Nigeria to Ghana under false promises of employment and educational opportunities. However, upon arrival, the victims, aged between 18 and 26 years, were forced into cyber fraud activities, including online romance scams.
During the raid, police recovered seventy-seven (77) laptops, thirty-eight (38) mobile phones, two (2) vehicles, three (3) television sets, and other internet-enabled devices believed to have been used in carrying out the crimes.
The fifty-seven rescued victims are currently receiving care and support, while the suspects remain in custody to assist with ongoing investigations. The retrieved exhibits have been retained for forensic examination.
The Ghana Police Service has urged the public, especially the youth, to be cautious about suspicious offers of employment and educational opportunities, which could be traps used by human trafficking networks.
