Pius Enam Hadzide, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Asuogyaman, has made a bold promise to his constituents. He assured them that if elected in the 2024 general elections, he will facilitate their travel to the United States of America for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Hadzide, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Youth Authority, made this pledge during a campaign event on September 10, urging constituents to support him in the upcoming December 7 polls. He highlighted his experience and background in sports, promising to use this expertise to create global opportunities for the youth in Asuogyaman.
Recalling his past efforts, Hadzide noted that he had previously helped Ghanaians travel to Australia and promised a similar opportunity if he wins the parliamentary seat. He told the crowd, “If you, Nananom, desire for your children to travel to America to work and send money back home, or if you are a young person eager to explore opportunities abroad, I promise to support you when I become MP.”
Hadzide, however, had previously been embroiled in a visa scandal during his time as Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports. The incident involved Ghanaian nationals pretending to be journalists in order to secure visas to attend the Commonwealth Games in Australia. Though he was suspended during investigations, Hadzide was later cleared of any wrongdoing and reinstated by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
