The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Adams Mahama Issahaku, headmaster of Piina Senior High School in the Upper West Region, over allegations of food smuggling. The decision, which takes immediate effect, follows a directive from the Director-General of GES.
According to a letter dated February 7, 2025, and signed by Razak Z. Abdul-Korah, the Upper West Regional Director of Education, the interdiction is a procedural step to allow for an impartial investigation. It does not imply a presumption of guilt on the part of Mr. Issahaku.
The interdiction stems from an incident on Thursday, February 6, 2025, when food items were reportedly discovered in Mr. Issahaku’s official pick-up vehicle while he was traveling from Piina SHS to Wa. The GES has assured stakeholders that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and the headmaster will be informed of the findings and any subsequent actions.
As part of the directive, Mr. Issahaku has been asked to hand over the administration of the school and all related properties to the Upper West Regional Director of Education. He has also been urged to fully cooperate with the investigation and refrain from any actions that could interfere with the process.
The GES reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability in the education sector and called on all relevant parties to comply with the directives to ensure a smooth investigation.
