Peter Nwachukwu Sentenced to Death by Hanging for Killing Gospel Singer Osinachi

Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel artist Osinachi, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme ruled on Monday, April 28, 2025, that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt. Nwachukwu was convicted of culpable homicide in connection with Osinachi’s death on April 8, 2022.

The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation charged Nwachukwu on 23 counts, including homicide, spousal battery, criminal intimidation, and child cruelty. Seventeen witnesses, including two of the couple’s children, testified against him, and 25 documents were submitted as evidence.

Despite pleas for leniency from Nwachukwu’s lawyer, the court imposed the full sentence, ending a case that has captured national attention since the singer’s tragic death.
