Former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere, has been detained by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) after being formally charged in connection with a controversial revenue assurance contract.
Adom-Otchere, alongside Otchere Kwame Baffour Awuah, Group Executive for Commercial Services at GACL, and Albert Adjetey Adjei-Laryea, CEO of Devnest Systems, faces charges over alleged procurement breaches relating to the contract between GACL and a private company reportedly linked to the proprietor of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML).
The OSP alleges the deal was sole-sourced without proper board approval. Investigators believe there may have been violations of procurement procedures and possible corruption in the awarding of the contract.
Although bail was granted, Adom-Otchere remains in custody after failing to meet the conditions, which required him to provide two landed properties registered in his name. He reportedly told investigators that he does not own any landed property in Ghana.
Speaking to journalists before his appearance at the OSP, Adom-Otchere denied any wrongdoing and labelled the investigation as a politically motivated witch-hunt. “The contract in question was signed by the Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company, and I was not even aware that the contract had been executed,” he said.
He further questioned why he was the focus of the probe rather than GACL officials directly involved in the contract’s approval and execution.
The OSP is expected to release further updates as investigations progress and possible court action is considered.
