Police have arrested a pastor and his accomplice for allegedly attempting to bury a five-month-old baby alive at Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, Apostle Dr. Richmond Akwasi Frimpong, head pastor of the Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, was apprehended together with his accomplice following a tip-off from a community member.
An eyewitness reported that around 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, he saw the two suspects at a refuse dump behaving suspiciously with a baby. Upon approaching them, he discovered that the child was still alive and immediately raised an alarm.
According to the eyewitness, the suspects appeared to be preparing to bury the baby despite the child being alive.
The Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, also stated that the pastor had earlier informed him that the baby was dead and requested a burial site, without disclosing that the child was alive.
The suspects were later arrested in Bibiani and are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The rescued baby has been taken to the Abofrem Clinic, where it is receiving medical care.
