Parliament Set to Vote on 2024 Budget Approval Today

Today, December 7, 2023, Parliament is anticipated to undertake a headcount vote regarding the approval of the 2024 budget. The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, initially called for a voice vote in favor of the Majority following the conclusion of debates on Wednesday, November 29.

However, this decision faced opposition from the Minority Caucus, prompting them to challenge the ruling and request a headcount vote instead.

In response, the Majority group staged a walkout. In light of these developments, Speaker Alban Bagbin declared that the headcount vote would occur today, December 7, specifically concerning the approval of the government’s economic policy and budget statement. This vote aims to pave the way for the approval of budget estimates.
