Ghana’s Parliament resumes sittings today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, officially beginning the Second Meeting of the First Session of the 9th Parliament after the Easter break.
As lawmakers return to business, key activities on the agenda include legislative debates, committee work, and discussions on critical national issues. A major event scheduled for the session is the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, expected to be presented by the Minister for Finance in August.
Speaking to Citi News, Second Deputy Majority Whip, Richard Acheampong, emphasized the session’s importance. “The ministers will present their statements for assessment, and we’ll evaluate their achievements over the past three months,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus has concluded a strategic retreat aimed at reviewing its performance and outlining its goals for the session. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin pledged robust oversight and signaled the caucus’s readiness for the 2028 elections.
“We will hold the government accountable while acting as a responsible opposition. Our message is clear we are prepared to take over in 2028,” he asserted.
