The Minority in Parliament has emphasized that all ministers reassigned by President Akufo-Addo must undergo vetting and approval by the Appointment Committee of Parliament.
According to the opposition lawmaker, the reassignments of five ministers of state to the office of the president should not be considered official until they have been vetted and approved by Parliament. The South Dayi Member of Parliament, speaking in Parliament on Friday, highlighted that these ministers’ appointments were revoked by the president, and their re-assignment must therefore be subjected to parliamentary scrutiny.
“We are demanding that those five ministers he has reassigned must be subjected to parliamentary vetting, and that is the procedure, so they cannot escape parliamentary scrutiny,” he asserted.
Dafeamekpor further emphasized the adherence to constitutional requirements, stating that if their call for parliamentary vetting is not heeded, they will seek legal interpretation from the Supreme Court.
President Akufo-Addo recently conducted a ministerial reshuffle, ten months before the end of his tenure. Some ministers, such as Ken Ofori-Atta, have been removed from their positions, while others like Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and Francis Asenso Boakye have been reassigned to different portfolios.
The reshuffle was announced in a press release dated February 14, signed by the Director of Communication at the presidency, Eugene Arhin.
