Parliament has approved a GH¢9.8 billion allocation for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for the 2026 fiscal year to support projects and programmes across the education sector.
The approval was announced during proceedings presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
Out of the total allocation, GH¢4.2 billion has been earmarked to support the Free Senior High School policy, while GH¢1.5 billion has been designated for the tertiary education sub-sector.
Within the tertiary allocation, GH¢300 million will be used to fund continuing students under the GETFund scholarship scheme and provide new sponsorship packages for students pursuing academic programmes both locally and abroad.
The 2026 GETFund formula further allocates GH¢230 million for the completion of basic school infrastructure projects and GH¢310 million for the construction of new educational facilities.
The funding is expected to strengthen educational access, improve infrastructure, and sustain scholarship support across multiple levels of Ghana’s education system.
