Parliament has approved a GHC250,000 allocation for each Member of Parliament (MP) through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to finance education-related projects in their respective constituencies.
Additionally, an extra GHC150,000 has been allocated to each MP for the monitoring and supervision of these projects, bringing the total amount per MP to GHC400,000.
The decision was announced on the floor of Parliament on Saturday, March 29, following deliberations between MPs and government officials. Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh emphasized the need for increased financial support to address pressing educational needs across the country.
“At the deliberations, we also suggested to the Finance Minister that there should be some re-alignment,” Annoh-Dompreh stated. “Considering the pressures MPs often face regarding educational demands in their constituencies, there was a need for an upward adjustment in the project fund. The GETFund administrator and the Finance Minister complied with our requests.”
The approved funds are expected to be used for the construction and renovation of schools, provision of educational materials, and other projects aimed at enhancing learning conditions across various communities.
