The Minister of Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye, has revealed that a total of GH¢13.7 million has been distributed under the National Rental Assistance Scheme (NRAS) from January to October 2023. This disclosure was made during a parliamentary update in Accra.
The NRAS was established as a key initiative to enhance access to quality housing for the people of Ghana. It caters to Ghanaians aged 18 and above who possess a valid national ID and verifiable employment with a regular income, enabling them to qualify for a rental loan within five to ten working days.
Minister Asenso-Boakye elaborated on the scheme’s progress, stating, “Since its launch in January 2023 through October 2023, a total of 1,105 Ghanaians residing in six operational regions, namely Greater Accra, Eastern, Western, Ashanti, Northern, and Bono East regions, have benefited from the NRAS. In total, GH¢13,785,591 has been disbursed to cover the rent advance for all 1,105 beneficiaries across these regions.”
Furthermore, the Minister assured Parliament of his ministry’s commitment to providing periodic updates on the NRAS’s operations, in line with principles of accountability and transparency.
