More than 60 Members of Parliament from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have thrown their support behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s quest to lead the party in the 2028 general elections.

The lawmakers, as part of a show of solidarity, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Bawumia, reaffirming their commitment to his leadership ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The endorsement comes amid rising internal competition as four high-profile party members have officially declared their intention to contest for the NPP flagbearer slot. These include Dr. Bawumia himself, Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong, and Minister for Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.

The MPs backing Dr. Bawumia represent a significant majority, with over 60 out of the party’s 88 sitting legislators reportedly behind his candidacy.
