A massive fire has ravaged over 100 wooden structures at the Tema Heavy Industrial Area, leaving residents and business owners counting their losses.
The incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, and is believed to have started from a kiosk where cooking was taking place. Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly, engulfing makeshift buildings and destroying properties and livelihoods.
Although there were no reported casualties, many victims say they have lost everything and are now displaced. Several residents expressed frustration over the response time of the Ghana National Fire Service, claiming the delay allowed the fire to spread beyond control.
“I was asleep with my daughter while my elder brother was at church. He called me to come outside because there was a fire. I rushed out almost naked. We’ve lost everything,” a resident recounted.
Reports also indicate that the person believed to have caused the fire has fled the area. Affected individuals are calling on the government and relevant authorities for urgent relief and support.
Officials have yet to release a formal statement regarding the cause or full extent of the damage.
