Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, has announced that the Akufo-Addo administration has created a record 2.6 million jobs since 2017, surpassing the job creation efforts of previous governments. He made this statement during an engagement with Ghanaian youth in Accra on Sunday, November 3.
Drawing on data from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and other sources, Dr. Bawumia revealed that of the total jobs created, 1.4 million were in the private sector, while 1.2 million were in the public sector.
He asserted that this achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening the economy and expanding employment opportunities for citizens.
While acknowledging ongoing economic challenges, Dr. Bawumia pledged to prioritize job creation if elected in the December elections, recognizing that unemployment, especially among the youth, remains a significant concern.
“We have done a remarkable job in creating jobs in the last seven years… The latest data shows that, between 2017 and 2024, we have created 2.6 million jobs. This is the highest of any government in the 4th Republic,” Bawumia stated, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to address unemployment in Ghana.
