The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a wanted man, citing his repeated failure to respond to invitations for questioning.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng announced that Ofori-Atta had refused to cooperate with ongoing investigations, prompting authorities to designate him as a fugitive from the law.

“Consequently, the OSP declares Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta a wanted person. He is a fugitive from the law,” Agyebeng stated.

Ofori-Atta is under investigation for his alleged involvement in multiple financial dealings, including:

  • A loss reduction contract between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Beijing Jao
  • Procurement irregularities related to the National Cathedral project
  • Contracts awarded by the Health Ministry to Service Ghana Auto Limited/Ambulances
  • The SML-GRA deal, a controversial financial transaction

The OSP has emphasized that it will use all necessary measures to compel the former minister to return and face questioning.

According to the Special Prosecutor, Ofori-Atta’s lawyers have informed the OSP that he is currently out of the country for medical treatment.

A letter, dated February 10, 2025, and presented by his legal team, reportedly states that Ofori-Atta has been undergoing medical evaluation and treatment abroad, with a possibility of further intervention at a later date.

Despite this explanation, the OSP remains unconvinced, insisting on his return to face legal proceedings.
