Organised Labour has urged President John Dramani Mahama to exercise restraint and caution in the process to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, warning that the outcome could have serious implications for Ghana’s democratic integrity.
Speaking during the 2025 May Day celebration, Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Joshua Ansah, addressed the recent suspension of the Chief Justice following a prima facie case established from multiple petitions for her dismissal.
“Mr. President, this situation places our democracy on a very delicate path,” Ansah warned. “We urge you to proceed carefully, as your actions will have lasting consequences for the governance of our country.”
Ansah also criticized the government for its weak stance against illegal mining, commonly referred to as galamsey, accusing authorities of failing to address the issue decisively.
