A fire outbreak at the Lapaz Market in Accra on Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2025, left one person hospitalized and caused significant damage to a textile shop.
The blaze erupted at a shop located atop a single-storey structure opposite the Lapaz Ecobank Branch. The shop owner, a young woman, reportedly collapsed upon seeing her shop engulfed in flames and was rushed to the Lapaz Community Hospital for treatment.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), they received a distress call at 2:25 PM, and the first team from the Abelemkpe Fire Station arrived within 10 minutes. Items including towels, curtains, curtain rods, and bedsheets were completely destroyed.
The fire was contained by 3:03 PM and fully extinguished by 4:35 PM, thanks to combined efforts from the Abelemkpe and Headquarters fire teams. Firefighters also managed to save 13 nearby shops, minimizing further losses.
No additional injuries were recorded, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
