The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested Bright Aweh, a prime suspect linked to the death of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose burnt body was found on July 9, 2025—five days after he was declared missing.

Police investigations revealed that Aweh was the last person to have contacted Amoah. He allegedly invited the officer to meet at Ashongman Estate on July 3, under the pretext of settling a financial obligation. WhatsApp messages showed Aweh had sent images of large bundles of cash to lure Amoah to the meeting location. That was the last time the officer was seen alive.

During police interrogation, Aweh claimed he handed GHS 500,000 to Amoah for debt payment and safekeeping. However, inconsistencies in his account and his inability to explain the origin of the money raised suspicions.

Amoah’s charred body was later discovered in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Family members identified the remains at the Police Hospital morgue.

The Ghana Police Service, in a statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, appealed to the public for any information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
