The Awutu Bereku District Police Command has detained a 25-year-old man on suspicion of kidnapping a 12-year-old student, Solomon Kwaku Wise, in Awutu Botoku.

The incident took place around 7:00 am on Monday as Solomon was en route to school.

According to Solomon’s mother, Cecelia Aquah, she accompanied her son to catch an okada at their junction. However, the suspect did not drop Solomon off at school.

Madam Aquah waited for hours after school ended, but Solomon never returned home.

After checking with Solomon’s teacher, she discovered that her son had been absent from school that day.

Together with the teacher, she initiated a search for Solomon but found no trace of him and subsequently reported the matter to the Police.

Utilizing footage from a CCTV camera installed by a Chinese company along the Awutu Bereku-Bontrase road, the police located the okada rider and took him into custody.

The rider confessed to picking up Solomon on Monday but denied knowing his current whereabouts. He is currently assisting the police with their investigation.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Bismarck Kojo Ewusi, has urged local residents to assist in reuniting Solomon with his family.
