Ofori-Atta Requests Virtual Session with OSP Amid Health Concerns

Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will not appear before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Monday, June 2, 2025, due to reported health complications, according to sources close to him. His legal team has submitted medical documents to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court, citing scheduled surgical procedures as the reason for his inability to attend in person.

The development raises questions about whether the OSP, led by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, will proceed to re-declare Ofori-Atta a wanted person. In an earlier statement, the OSP indicated such a move was possible if the former minister failed to honour his scheduled appearance.

Ofori-Atta is currently challenging his previous “wanted” status in the Human Rights Court, with a ruling expected on June 18. His legal team is also seeking the removal of prior wanted notices from the OSP’s social media accounts.

In light of his health condition, Ofori-Atta has proposed to cooperate with the investigation virtually, invoking provisions under the Electronic Transactions Act. This would enable the OSP to take a Cautioned Statement remotely while he undergoes treatment. The OSP has not yet responded publicly to this proposal.

Key Investigations Involving Ofori-Atta:

  • Petroleum and Minerals Revenue Assurance: Deals between Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd and the Ghana Revenue Authority.
  • Electricity Company Contract: The terminated contract between ECG and Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).
  • National Cathedral Project: Questions surrounding procurement and funding processes.
  • Ambulance Procurement: The Ministry of Health’s contract for 307 ambulances with Service Ghana Auto Group Ltd.
  • GRA Tax P-Fund: Management and disbursement of tax funds.

  • Feb 12, 2025: OSP declares him a fugitive after failing to cooperate.
  • Feb 18, 2025: His name is removed from the wanted list after a promised return.
  • March 2025: Ofori-Atta files a lawsuit, challenging the OSP’s actions.
  • June 2, 2025: Expected appearance date, now deferred due to health concerns.

Should Ofori-Atta fail to appear in any form on June 2, the OSP has warned that his name will be reinstated on the wanted list, and an INTERPOL Red Notice may be requested.
