The Office of the Special Prosecutor is currently seeking legal approval to freeze and seize the financial assets belonging to Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources. They have submitted a motion to the High Court on Monday, September 11, 2023, in an effort to confirm the freezing orders placed on Madam Dapaah’s Cedi and dollar accounts. These accounts had initially been frozen on August 9 but were later unfrozen by the High Court on August 31.
A hearing date has been scheduled for October 18, 2023. Following the High Court’s earlier ruling, which required the OSP to reverse the freezing of accounts and return seized funds to the former minister within 7 days, the OSP complied.
However, it subsequently exercised its authority to re-freeze these assets immediately after their release to her.
