NSA Closes Baba Yara Stadium for One Month

The National Sports Authority (NSA) has announced the temporary closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for maintenance, following complaints about the poor condition of the pitch during Ghana’s recent 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola. The stadium is set to reopen ahead of Ghana’s next international match on October 7, 2024.

The decision comes after Angola’s coach, Pedro Gonçalves, criticized the pitch, stating that it hindered proper gameplay. Ghana’s coach, Otto Addo, also acknowledged the pitch’s poor state but refrained from blaming the defeat entirely on it.

As a result of the closure, Asante Kotoko will need to find an alternative venue for their upcoming Ghana Premier League matches. The NSA plans to address the damage caused by frustrated fans following the match.
