NPP Youth Organiser Slams Arrest of Sir Obama Pokuase as Political Persecution

National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has condemned the arrest of social media activist Daniel Adomako, popularly known as Sir Obama Pokuase, describing it as evidence of selective justice against members of the party.

Mr. Adomako was detained for allegedly circulating images of individuals openly displaying illegally acquired weapons. According to the Ghana Police Service, the arrest was part of a joint intelligence-led operation targeting illegal arms possession.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on August 13, Mr. Mustapha argued that the arrest reflects a broader pattern of political persecution, claiming that the law is applied selectively. He cited the July 11 rerun of elections in 19 polling stations in Ablekuma North, where alleged thugs reportedly attacked Fisheries Minister Hawa Koomson and another individual, Chris Loyd, yet no arrests were made.

“These are known people, yet the police haven’t arrested a fly. Meanwhile, they go after others whose only offence was making a comment or two deemed inappropriate,” he said.

Mr. Mustapha also disputed police claims that Sir Obama Pokuase brandished weapons, stating that the images in question were already circulating on social media before he reposted them.

“It cannot be established anywhere in the video that he was holding any weapon. Yet his home was ransacked, his door broken down, and heavily armed men arrested this harmless young man. Is this the democracy we are building?” he questioned.
