The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced its plans to host an extraordinary constituency delegates conference on Saturday, December 2, 2023, with the purpose of selecting parliamentary candidates for constituencies where the party currently lacks parliamentary representation.
A press release issued by the NPP and endorsed by its general secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, conveyed that this decision was the outcome of a meeting held by the National Executive Committee (NEC) on Friday, November 10, 2023.
The vetting process for prospective candidates in these “orphan” constituencies is set to occur in all regional capitals throughout the country, running from Tuesday, November 14 to Thursday, November 16.
The parliamentary primaries in these constituencies will be conducted on December 2, except for Ketu North, Akatsi North, Yilo Krobo, Jomoro, Fomena, and Bawku Central, which are excluded from this round of elections.
Furthermore, the National Executive Committee has also rescheduled the date for the party’s parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the NPP currently holds seats. The new date for these primaries is January 20, 2024, with nominations opening on December 20, 2023, and closing on December 22, 2023.
In an additional development, the NPP has appointed individuals to oversee the vetting process across all sixteen regions. These actions reflect the party’s commitment to the democratic process and ensuring representation in constituencies across the country.
