NPP Thugs Convicted and Fined GH₵2400 Each for Disrupting UTV Live Show

Sixteen individuals affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who were arrested for their involvement in the invasion of United Television (UTV) offices have been found guilty and fined GH₵2400 each by the Achimota Magistrate Court. The group faced charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and rioting, to which they pleaded guilty, resulting in their conviction.

On October 7, during UTV’s prime-time entertainment show “United Showbiz,” these individuals forcibly entered the studio, disrupting the live program and threatening the host and guests. It was later revealed that the thugs were led by the Klottey Korle Youth Organizer of the NPP, allegedly acting on orders from Ernest Owusu Bempah, a Deputy Director of Communications, and other prominent figures within the ruling party.

The incitement for this incident was A Plus, a panelist on the show, tearing apart a letter from the NPP leadership addressed to UTV management, which had requested reforms to the United Showbiz panel.

The invasion by the NPP-affiliated individuals received widespread condemnation from various organizations, including the Ghana Journalists Association and the Information Ministry. National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ntim, issued an unreserved apology to the UTV management for the actions of these individuals, publicly denouncing their behavior during a visit to Peace FM studios. In his apology, Chairman Ntim pledged that the party’s leadership would take measures to prevent any recurrence of such reprehensible actions.
