NPP Sets up Committee to Investigate 2024 Election Loss

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has constituted an 11-member committee to investigate the reasons behind the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections. The committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, was announced during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Accra today.

The committee has been tasked with conducting a thorough review of the factors that contributed to the party’s loss and proposing strategies to rebuild and strengthen the NPP ahead of future elections. As part of its mandate, the committee will engage various stakeholders, including party members, grassroots supporters, and political analysts, to gather comprehensive insights.

The NEC emphasized the urgency of the committee’s work, directing it to begin immediately. Findings from the review are expected to significantly shape the party’s future strategy. Members and supporters have been encouraged to actively participate and support the process for a meaningful and impactful investigation.

During the same meeting, the NEC confirmed Alexander Afenyo-Markin as the Minority Leader for the Ninth Parliament. Mr. Afenyo-Markin, who is the Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, was retained in his role, underscoring the party’s confidence in his leadership to effectively hold the majority accountable.

Call for Unity and Reflection

NPP National Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, highlighted the importance of the committee’s work, urging party members to remain united and focused during this period of reflection and rebuilding.

“This is a critical moment for the NPP. We must take this opportunity to learn from our setbacks and emerge stronger and more determined,” Mr. Ntim stated.

At a press conference on December 23, 2024, Mr. Ntim announced the party’s plan to establish a review committee in January 2025. The committee’s objective is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the factors leading to the NPP’s defeat in both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
