In a startling turn of events during the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, allegations of voter fraud have emerged, with claims that some individuals are using the details of deceased individuals to cast their votes. The primaries are a crucial step in selecting the party’s candidate to lead them in the 2024 elections, and the main contenders include Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, while Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Addai Nimo are also vying for the position.
Ofosu Siaw, a coordinator in Kennedy Agyapong’s camp, has come forward with the accusations, pointing to irregularities at the Agyiri Nyarko School complex in Ashaiman. The alleged use of deceased individuals’ information to cast votes has raised concerns about the integrity of the primaries.
The NPP has a long history of conducting transparent and fair internal elections, making these allegations even more significant. Party officials are now faced with the challenge of investigating the claims to ensure a credible and fair selection process.
The emergence of these allegations is expected to add a layer of complexity to the already competitive race between Agyapong and Bawumia. Both candidates have been campaigning vigorously, presenting their visions for the party and the nation.
