The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has assured its members and the general public of full preparedness ahead of its presidential primaries scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2026.

A total of 211,849 delegates are expected to vote at 333 polling centres across the country’s 276 constituencies. Voting will begin at 7:00am and close at 2:00pm.

Chairperson of the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei-Owusu, said all logistical, administrative and security arrangements have been finalised, adding that the Electoral Commission will conduct the entire process.

He stated that the party worked closely with the EC to identify suitable voting centres, with each constituency generally having one centre. However, constituencies with more than 1,000 delegates were provided with additional voting points within the same locality. This arrangement resulted in 333 polling centres nationwide, including one at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

Mr Osei-Owusu revealed that two proposed voting centres were relocated after joint assessments with the EC and constituency executives, a decision unanimously approved by all five presidential aspirants.

He further explained that issues related to the delegate register, including validation, petitions and corrections, were handled transparently with representatives of all aspirants involved throughout the process.

Out of an initial register of 213,617 names, 2,827 deceased members and 653 individuals who had forfeited their party membership were removed, leaving 211,849 eligible delegates.

According to him, the NPP has officially handed over the voting, counting, collation and declaration processes to the Electoral Commission. Results will be declared at polling centres, collated at regional centres and finally announced at the party’s headquarters in Accra.

On security, he said the Ghana Police Service will deploy between 70 and 150 officers to each polling centre, with military support in selected areas, particularly parts of the Upper East Region. He warned against the use of private security or vigilante groups, stating that such actions will be dealt with decisively by the police.

Mr Osei-Owusu also announced the abolition of proxy voting for the primaries, explaining that the decision was taken to protect the integrity and credibility of the process.

The five aspirants contesting the January 31 NPP presidential primaries are Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

He expressed confidence that the outcome of the primaries would be accepted by all contestants, stressing that the process will be fair, transparent and credible.
