NPP Primaries: Kennedy Agyapong Gave Bawumia a Proper Showdown in the Central Region

Kennedy Agyapong Leads Central Region Votes, Bawumia Ahead in NPP Presidential Primaries

In the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential primaries, Member of Parliament for Assin Central and Presidential hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has emerged victorious in the Central Region with 10,828 votes. His closest rival, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, secured 6,159 votes, while Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Addai Nimo obtained 47 and 38 votes, respectively.

The competition remains intense as provisional results indicate that Vice President Dr. Bawumia is leading in the overall race, with his camp celebrating the anticipated victory. They believe he has garnered more than 50% of the votes, securing his position as the ruling party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Dr. Bawumia has also made a strong showing in other regions, gaining a majority of votes in the Savannah Region with 2,603 votes, where Kennedy Agyapong received 1,020 votes. In the North East Region, Dr. Bawumia leads comfortably with 3,444 votes, while Kennedy Agyapong managed to secure only 23 votes.

In the Oti Region, Dr. Bawumia emerged as the frontrunner with 3,591 votes, while Kennedy Agyapong received 1,311 votes. Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Francis Addai-Nimoh obtained 36 and 27 votes, respectively.

These results set the stage for a highly competitive NPP Presidential primaries, with the final outcome yet to be officially announced. The NPP members eagerly await the official declaration of their party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
