Today, July 4, the National Council (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will convene to discuss the selection of a running mate by the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia is anticipated to advocate for his choice of Energy Minister, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, explaining why he is the most suitable candidate for the position of running mate.
Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the NPP, informed Citi News that today’s meeting aligns with the party’s constitutional requirements.
“Our party’s constitution, particularly Article 13, stipulates that any nominee for running mate must be presented to the National Council for consultation. Consequently, Dr. Bawumia will present Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the MP for Manhyia South and Minister for Energy, as his running mate before the National Council,” he stated.
On June 25, Dr. Bawumia held a significant discussion with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo regarding his decision to select Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate. Following this, he formally notified the NPP’s leadership and the Majority caucus in Parliament.
