Hussain Abdul Karim Labaani, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Yendi constituency, has officially submitted his nomination to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate in the upcoming December elections.
Labaani’s decision follows frustrations shared by other dissatisfied NPP members regarding the party’s parliamentary primaries and the imposition of the current MP, Alhaji Faruq Ali Mahama, by the National Executive Committee.
Citing unfulfilled promises and dissatisfaction with Mahama’s imposed candidacy, Labaani expressed confidence in his ability to secure the Yendi seat, vowing to offer stronger leadership. He called on his supporters to rally behind him in the polls.
His supporters also voiced criticism of the current MP’s leadership, calling for a shift towards democratic representation. Labaani emphasized, “The people choose the leader, not the leader chooses himself,” clarifying that his decision was not an act of rebellion against Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia but a demand for fair representation.
Labaani added, “The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Faruq Ali Mahama, was imposed on us, which goes against the principles of the rule of law. It is the people who should choose their leader, not the other way around.”
