Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as Kwame A Plus and the Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central, has disclosed that he is leaning towards aligning with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
In a Facebook post on January 6, 2025, A Plus revealed that Kennedy Agyapong, an NPP MP for Assin Central, had reached out to persuade him to join the New Patriotic Party (NPP). This comes after A Plus secured victory in Gomoa Central as an independent candidate in the tightly contested 2024 parliamentary elections.
During the elections, A Plus garnered 14,277 votes, beating the NPP’s Eyiah Naana (11,637 votes) and the NDC’s Yawson Muhammed Naeem-Deen (10,112 votes).
The NPP currently holds 88 parliamentary seats, while the NDC commands a significant majority with 183 seats.
A Plus disclosed that the NPP’s offer included a pledge not to contest the Gomoa Central seat in the 2028 elections, should he join their ranks. Meanwhile, the NDC has also extended an invitation to discuss potential collaboration, with a meeting scheduled for January 7, 2025.
Although he acknowledged having friends in both parties, A Plus admitted his decision would ultimately be guided by who offers the best deal for himself and his constituents.
“Let me make this simple and clear: deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will ultimately side with whoever has my interest at heart and provides the best offer for me and the people of Gomoa Central,” he stated.
