NPP Flagbearer Balloting Results: Kennedy Agyapong Picks Number 1

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) recently conducted a flagbearer balloting event in preparation for its delegates conference on November 4, 2023, in Accra. Kennedy Agyapong drew the first slot, while Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia selected the second slot. Other participants included former Minister for Agriculture Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto (third slot) and former MP for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimo (fourth slot). The balloting process was overseen by the party’s national election committee, with the goal of selecting the NPP’s flagbearer for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The NPP is currently engaged in a competitive four-way race, featuring prominent figures like Ken Agyapong, Dr. Bawumia, and Dr. Akoto as the primary contenders. Notably, Alan Kyeremateng withdrew from the race following the Special Delegates Conference. Ken Agyapong, a well-known NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has been an outspoken critic of the government and has pledged to bring about change if elected as the flagbearer.

The NPP, Ghana’s ruling party since 2017, aims to secure a third term in office during the 2024 general elections.
