The Agona West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expelled 280 members, including Cynthia Morrison, the sitting Member of Parliament (MP), effective December 16, 2024.
The decision was made during an Expanded Constituency Executive Committee meeting held on December 15, 2024. The expelled members are now indefinitely banned from:
- Representing themselves as party members.
- Holding any positions within the party.
- Attending or participating in party meetings or activities.
- Using party symbols or flags.
The expulsions were prompted by complaints that the affected individuals:
- Stood as independent candidates.
- Joined or openly declared support for other political parties.
- Supported independent candidates in the recent parliamentary elections.
Alhaji Gibrine Tanko, the Constituency Chairman, stated in a December 16, 2024, communiqué that the decision was guided by the party’s constitution, which enforces strict measures to uphold discipline and unity.
This action underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining cohesion and addressing actions deemed detrimental to its interests.
