The Ghanaian government, led by Defense Minister Dominic Nitiwul, has announced the deployment of security personnel to border towns across the country, particularly in the northern regions, to prevent the smuggling of grains to neighboring countries. This decision follows the recent ban on grain exports, a measure taken to mitigate potential food shortages due to prolonged drought conditions.
The Defense Minister emphasized that the deployment aims to protect the nation’s food supply and urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies. He encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities, particularly along unapproved routes, to ensure the effectiveness of the measures.
“We are deploying security personnel across the borders, especially in the north, as well as in the east and the south. We ask citizens to support the security agencies by reporting any unauthorized activities to help prevent our citizens from suffering,” Nitiwul stated.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to safeguard food security amid challenging weather conditions that have severely impacted agricultural production in the region.
