Ghana’s Black Queens coach, Nora Häuptle, has reportedly stepped down from her role to assume the position of head coach for Zambia’s women’s national team. The move was confirmed by Zambian journalist Augustine Mukoka and sources from JoySports.
Häuptle is expected to sign a two-year contract with Zambia’s Football Association, earning $7,000 per month. The deal, approved by the Executive Committee on December 21, is set for finalization soon.
Häuptle’s departure follows unsuccessful contract renewal talks with the Ghana Football Association (GFA). While the GFA offered a $6,000 monthly salary and a $5,000 bonus in preparation for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) 2025, Häuptle reportedly demanded $12,000, a figure the GFA did not accommodate.
Beyond financial disagreements, Häuptle expressed dissatisfaction with the GFA’s lack of support for the Black Queens. A key issue was the failure to secure $40,000 for two friendly matches against Tunisia and Senegal, which reportedly left her demoralized.
Under Häuptle’s leadership, the Black Queens showed significant progress, particularly in the Women’s Olympic qualifiers. However, Ghana’s narrow elimination by Zambia in those qualifiers seemed to weigh heavily on her. She had hoped to lead Ghana to redemption at AWCON 2025, but unmet demands and inadequate resources strained her relationship with the GFA.
The GFA now faces the challenge of finding a new coach to lead the Black Queens in preparation for AWCON 2025 in Morocco. Meanwhile, Häuptle looks forward to a fresh start with Zambia’s women’s national team.
